The Risen Jesus Is Alive for You

A Message for New Believers from Matthew 28:5-8

Dear new friends in Christ,

Welcome to the family of God. Coming to faith in Jesus is one of the most exciting and important steps you will ever take. As you begin this new life, there will be moments when you feel excited, moments when you feel unsure, and moments when life still feels hard. That is completely normal. The good news is that you are not alone, and the foundation of your new faith is something incredibly strong and life-changing. The Bible passage in Matthew 28:5-8 gives a beautiful picture of what happened right after Jesus died on the cross, and it holds wonderful truths that can steady your heart as you grow in your walk with him.

Imagine two women walking to a tomb early in the morning. They were sad because they had seen Jesus crucified and buried. They expected to find only a dead body. Instead, they met an angel sent from heaven with a message that changed everything. The angel said to them, Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. Those words are for you too. When you first come to faith, it is natural to feel some fear or uncertainty about what lies ahead. You may wonder if you can really live differently or if God will stay close when things get tough. The angel’s words remind you that God sees exactly where you are. He knows you are looking for Jesus, even when your understanding is still new. The crucifixion was real and painful, but God does not ignore the hard parts of life. He meets you right there with kindness and says you do not have to be afraid. Jesus understands what it feels like to face hard things, and he wants to walk with you through every part of your new life.

Then the angel gave the news that turns sorrow into celebration: He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. This is the heart of the Christian faith. Jesus did not stay dead. God raised him to life, and the tomb was empty. The words just as he said are important for new believers to hold onto. Jesus had told his friends ahead of time that he would die and rise again. When it actually happened, it proved that everything he said is true. For you, this means you can trust Jesus completely. When he promises to forgive your sins, to give you new life, and to be with you always, he keeps those promises. The empty tomb is like God’s signature on every word Jesus spoke. You are invited to come and see for yourself by reading the Bible, talking with other Christians, and watching how God works in your daily life. The resurrection shows that God is more powerful than death, more powerful than sin, and more powerful than anything that tries to pull you away from him. No matter what mistakes you made before coming to faith, the risen Jesus offers a completely fresh start.

The angel did not stop with the good news about the empty tomb. He gave the women something to do: Then go quickly and tell his disciples: He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him. Now I have told you. Right away, the women were given a job to share the news. That same invitation is for you. As a new believer, you do not have to know everything or have all the answers before you can tell others about Jesus. The women were not experts. They were simply people who had heard the amazing truth and were sent to share it. You can begin by telling your friends or family what Jesus has done for you, even if it is just in simple words like I have started following Jesus and it is changing my life. The angel also said that Jesus is going ahead of you into Galilee. Galilee was the ordinary place where the disciples lived and worked. It means Jesus does not stay far away in heaven. He goes ahead of you into your everyday life, your job, your school, your home, and your relationships. He is there before you arrive, ready to help you and meet you in the middle of normal days. That is incredibly encouraging when you face new challenges as a believer. Jesus is not waiting for you to become perfect. He is already moving ahead to guide you and strengthen you.

The Bible tells us how the women responded: So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. They felt both fear and joy at the same time. That mix is something many new believers experience. The fear is not the scary kind that makes you run away. It is the respectful awe you feel when you realize God has done something huge and wonderful. The joy is the deep happiness that comes from knowing Jesus is alive and that he loves you. It is okay if your feelings go up and down as you grow. Some days you may feel more of the awe, and other days the joy will overflow. The important thing is that both of those feelings moved the women to action. They did not sit still. They hurried and ran to share the news. As a new believer, let the joy of knowing Jesus alive push you to keep learning, to pray regularly, to connect with your church family, and to live in ways that show his love. You do not have to run perfectly. Just keep taking steady steps forward.

For you who are new to following Jesus, these verses teach some foundational truths that will help you build a strong life of faith. First, the resurrection means your sins are really forgiven. Jesus died to take the punishment you deserved, and God raised him to show that the payment was accepted. You can live without carrying the heavy weight of guilt. Second, the resurrection gives you power for daily living. The same God who raised Jesus can help you say no to old habits and yes to new ways of loving God and others. Third, the resurrection promises a future. One day Jesus will return, and all who trust in him will be raised to eternal life with him. That hope can carry you through hard times now. Fourth, the resurrection calls you into community. The women were sent to tell the disciples, showing that faith is meant to be shared and lived together with other believers. Find a church where you can grow, ask questions, and serve alongside others.

As you continue in your new faith, come back often to the empty tomb in your mind and heart. When doubts come, remember the angel’s words: He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. When you feel afraid about the future, hear the gentle command: Do not be afraid. When you wonder how to live out your faith, listen to the commission: Go quickly and tell. Jesus is going ahead of you into every part of your life. He wants to meet you there and help you become more like him.

You have stepped into a story that is bigger and better than you could have imagined. The risen Jesus is alive today, and he is for you. He is patient with your questions, gentle with your struggles, and excited about your growth. Keep reading the Bible, keep praying, keep connecting with other Christians, and keep sharing the hope you have found. The same power that emptied the tomb is at work in your life right now.

May the joy of the risen Jesus fill your heart, strengthen your steps, and overflow into everything you do. You are loved, you are forgiven, and you belong to the One who conquered death. Walk forward with confidence, knowing that the best is still ahead because Jesus is alive.
