O God of all times and seasons,
as evening settles upon the earth and the noise of the day slowly fades, we come before you with hearts that are both weary and grateful. The hours behind us hold many things—moments of work and rest, laughter and frustration, hope and disappointment. Yet in all of them, you have been present. Even when we did not recognize you, your quiet providence held our lives together.
Your word reminds us that there is a time for everything under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance. These words speak with a wisdom that stretches across generations, reminding us that our lives are not random fragments of experience but part of a larger rhythm that you alone understand. You are the keeper of time itself, the One who gathers every moment and gives it meaning.
Tonight we confess that we often struggle to trust the seasons you appoint. When the days are bright and joyful, we fear that sorrow will follow. When grief or confusion arrives, we wonder if light will ever return. Our hearts long for permanence, yet our lives move through constant change. Forgive us for the ways we resist the seasons you have given. Forgive us for the times we cling too tightly to moments that must pass, or when we rush through difficult days instead of trusting that you are at work within them.
Teach us to see our lives through the wisdom of your Spirit. Help us to accept that both joy and sorrow belong within the story you are shaping. When we laugh, remind us that laughter is a gift from your gracious hand. When we weep, remind us that our tears are not signs of your absence but places where your compassion draws near. You are the God who stands with us in every season—the One who rejoices over our celebrations and the One who sits beside us in our mourning.
As night approaches, we lift before you all that this day has contained. Receive our gratitude for the good we have seen: for conversations that lifted our spirits, for work accomplished, for kindness given and received, for the quiet beauty that still appears in ordinary moments. These are glimpses of your kingdom breaking into the present world.
We also bring before you the parts of the day that remain unfinished or unresolved. Some of us carry burdens that feel heavy tonight—worries about tomorrow, relationships that need healing, losses that still ache within our hearts. Some among us are walking through seasons of waiting, unsure when joy will return. Others are celebrating new beginnings, uncertain yet hopeful about what lies ahead.
Lord of time, hold all these seasons in your mercy. Where there is grief, breathe your comfort. Where there is anxiety, plant the quiet assurance of your presence. Where there is fatigue, grant the deep rest that only you can give. Remind us that even when the seasons of life feel uncertain, your faithfulness does not change. The same God who was present at the dawn of creation walks beside us tonight.
Help us also to see the seasons in the lives of those around us. Some are dancing while others are mourning. Some are planting seeds of hope while others are uprooting what has long been familiar. Give us compassionate hearts that honor each person’s journey. Teach us to rejoice with those who rejoice and to sit gently with those who weep.
As darkness gathers and the world grows quiet, we entrust ourselves to your care. The hours of sleep are another reminder that our lives are not sustained by our own effort but by your faithful love. While we rest, you remain awake, watching over your creation, guiding history toward the fullness of your purpose.
And so we lay this day in your hands. Every joy, every sorrow, every moment that seemed small or ordinary—we place them all before you, trusting that nothing is wasted in your kingdom. You are weaving each season into a story of redemption that is larger than we can see.
Grant us peace tonight, O God of every season. Let your presence settle upon our hearts like evening light. And when morning comes, awaken us again with renewed trust that whatever season awaits us, you will be there—faithful, patient, and full of grace.
We rest in that promise now.
Amen.
